about

Penned in 1991, this song was the first that I had written for safety education. I had been asked to teach a fire safety component for the students matriculating into kindergarten.

Because I could find no other song that matched my lesson plan, I decided to write my own. This song became the first of many to be written over my years as as a safety educator.

lyrics

I'm sleeping in my bed in the middle of the night
My mommy tucked me in all snug and tight
I wake up real fast 'cause I hear somebody yell,
“There's a fire in the house!”
It's the smoke I smell

Stay Low and Go
Stay Low and Go
When the smoke's above
Stay Down Low

I know what to do, 'cause I learned it one day
I have a plan to get out and I'll show you the way
Get down on the floor
Don't stand up at all
When there's smoke in your room
You need to crawl.

Stay Low and Go
Stay Low and Go
When the smoke's above
Stay Down Low

Stay Low and Go
Stay Low and Go
When the smoke's above
Stay Down Low
