As I walked down the street one day I heard loud noises coming my way I saw a police car, a fire truck, and ambulance, too. I guess they had something important to do. I asked a man standing on his porch Why they gotta hurry ‘round that corner? He said young man, I guess that you don’t know When there’s an emergency they really go… Now it didn’t seem to make much sense I saw a police car, a fire truck, an ambulance. Sirens with lights spinnin’ round And, boy, they made a crazy sound. The man said to me as they went by, “If you need help fast they can really fly. They go when someone’s sick or hurt, They go when something’s getting burnt.” I asked, “what if a stranger comes in my door?” He said, “A police officer shows them what he’s for.” Now I know in an emergency, there are special people to come help me All it takes is a simple call, Dial 9-1-1 to handle all. Dial 9-1-1 to handle all… -- Lyrics and music copyright 2006 Richard A. Palmer, BMI

Got a new bike, took it out to ride My friends were all there, they were playin' outside I climbed on my bike and got ready to go Put a helmet on my head, they said “Whoa man, whoa!” They said you look goofy, must've lost your head My head is what I'm savin' that's what I said. Bikin' and bladin' all summer long, Got my helmet and my pads in case something goes wrong. If I crash and fall down to the ground, The hospital's not the place I wanna be found. Those are great rollerblades on your feet. With skates like that you could fly down the street. But bladin' without pads isn't very cool, If you fall and bust your head you're a rollerblade fool. You say pads and helmets don't look very keen. They could save your life if you know what I mean. Bikin' and bladin' all summer long, Got my helmet and my pads in case something goes wrong. If I crash and fall down to the ground, The hospital's not the place I wanna be found. Bikin' and bladin' all summer long, Got my helmet and my pads in case something goes wrong. -- Lyrics and music copyright 2006 Richard A. Palmer, BMI

A call comes in to the firehouse There's a house on fire. They need the firefighters right away Flames are getting higher. Ring, ring, goes the bell Watch the firefighters run Before they can fight the fire something must be done. The firefighter grabs his fire gear It helps keep him safe When there's a fire he puts it on Hurry don't be late. Flash, flash go the lights The firetruck is on the road The horn blows and the siren yells Watch that firetruck go The firefighter has on special clothes let's see if we know why When there's a fire he puts them on When you see him please don't cry Hey, hey Firefighter you don't look the same But I won't be afraid; I know why you came. Now they've put the fire out They put away the hose Everyone gets back on the truck Now it's time to go. Hey, hey firefighter there's a fire call Boots and pants, coat and gloves Wait that's not all Don't forget your air mask and a helmet for your head. Now you can go to the fire In your firetruck big and red. Hey, hey Firefighter you don't look the same But I won't be afraid; I know why you came. -- Lyrics and music copyright 2006 Richard A. Waiting in the hall on the ceiling or the wall is a friend I can't live without. It stays wide awake while I sleep tight and if there's smoke it wakes me up tonight. My smoke detector is a life protector It knows just what to do. And if a fire breaks out in my house it wakes me up I have no doubt. Once each month I test my detector I wanna be sure that it works okay And if I find the battery's low I put a new one in right away. When it yells I wake right up and get down on the floor. I don't stand I stay under smoke and crawl my way right out the door. My smoke detector is a life protector It knows just what to do. And if a fire breaks out in my house it wakes me up I have no doubt. When the smoke detector beeps gotta get on the floor When the smoke detector beeps gotta get out the door. I'm sleeping in my bed in the middle of the night My mommy tucked me in all snug and tight I wake up real fast 'cause I hear somebody yell, “There's a fire in the house!” It's the smoke I smell Stay Low and Go Stay Low and Go When the smoke's above Stay Down Low I know what to do, 'cause I learned it one day I have a plan to get out and I'll show you the way Get down on the floor Don't stand up at all When there's smoke in your room You need to crawl. Stay Low and Go Stay Low and Go When the smoke's above Stay Down Low Stay Low and Go Stay Low and Go When the smoke's above Stay Down Low Music and Lyrics copyright 2006 Richard A. Palmer, BMI

Dodo Bird Song (Matches and Lighters) They say I’m just a Dodo Bird I don’t know what to do. I always make the same mistakes; I guess I’m not like you. When a door says push, I always pull And then I bump my nose. A wise old owl would always know to read it before he goes. When I try to fly up, I fall on the ground. My brain just doesn’t know why. I wash my feathers with a garden hose and roll in the dirt to get dry. But there’s one thing I’ll never do… I learned from my safety friends. Matches and lighters are tolls, not toys… I’ll never, ever, ever touch them. Though I’m just a Dodo Bird There’s something you can learn from me. Matches and lighters are for moms and dads; They’re not for a Dodo like me. Boys and girls, play it safe, Always use your head. If you see matches and lighters where they shouldn’t be Tell a grown-up what I just said. They should put matches and lighters in a safe place Where a little person just can’t reach. And though I’m just a Dodo Bird, it’s a lesson I like to teach. Music and lyrics copyright 2006 Richard A. Palmer, BMI

Surf EDITH 02:01
Surf EDITH I was sleepin' in my bed where it's nice and calm When I heard a loud noise, 'was my smoke alarm. It could have been bad, I might be there still but I had a little plan called an Exit Drill. An Exit Drill is something you should know If a fire is in your house you'll know where to go When the smoke detector beeps don't just run around Go to the floor and just stay down! When a fire is in a house there's smoke in the air So crawling down low is the way to go. If you wanna breathe stay down low It's safer there than anywhere. I went to the door as I crawled on the floor And felt it with the back of my hand It didn't feel hot, so I opened it slow I didn't see smoke so I crawled down low. Once I got outside went to a meeting place That was next to a tree in my front yard space. Then someone from my family Went to the neighbor's house to use the telephone. Dial 9-1-1 fire emergency, but never call in your own home. An Exit Drill is something you should know If a fire is in your house you'll know where to go When the smoke detector beeps don't just run around Go to the floor and just stay down! An Exit Drill is something you should know If a fire is in your house you'll know where to go When the smoke detector beeps don't just run around Go to the floor and just stay down! An Exit Drill is something you should know If a fire is in your house you'll know where to go When the smoke detector beeps don't just run around Go to the floor and just stay down! Ridin' With Style (School Bus Song) It’s time to get on the bus It’s time to go for a ride And if I follow the rules I’ll get to where I am going without getting hurt cause I’m Ridin’ with Style Gonna be on this bus for awhile I’m doin’ the things I ought to do I’m gonna be safe while I’m ridin’ with you On the bus. I’ve got my bottom on the bottom And my back… to the back I keep my hands inside And my bags out of the aisle cause I’m Ridin’ with Style Gonna be on this bus for awhile I’m doin’ the things I ought to do I’m gonna be safe while I’m ridin’ with you On the bus. Now when the driver’s doin’ the drivin’ And the kids are doin’ the ridin’ There’s gotta be some peace and quiet Or the bus driver can’t do the decidin’ so I’m Sure you’ve got style You’re gonna be on this bus for awhile. You’re doin’ the things you ought to do You’re gonna be safe, yes I know that it’s true On the bus. Music and lyrics Copyright 2006 Richard A. Palmer, BMI
